Space Shuttle Discovery STS-131 Landing (April 20, 2010)

This landing puts a successful Space Shuttle mission to an end. Discovery touched down on runway 33 of the Kennedy Space Center in Florida on April 20, 2010 at 9:08aET. The STS-131 mission lasted for 15 days, 2 days longer than originally planned. The Payload of this mission was a big cargo module, the MPLM, which transported tons of supplies to the International Space Station. Also in the payload bay of Discovery was a ammonia tank assembly, which was mounted on the exterior of the ISS during several of the 3 spacewalks that took place during the docked part of the mission. Early in the flight of the Shuttle the Ku communication system failed, which caused some inconvenience and extended the mission by one day, because a docked late inspection was performed. Returning inside Discoverys payload bay is the MPLM, which is filled with parts that are no longer needed onboard the station, and the old ammonia tank. This landing marks the end of the 131st Shuttle flight and the 33rd to the ISS. We witnessed a picture perfect landing, all the radio calls you hear are nominal.
