Space shuttle Endeavour STS-127 launch from Banana Creek
The Banana Creek viewing location at Kennedy Space Center is the VIP section where the families of the astronauts and other invited guests view the launch. In an unprecedented move, those with KSC launch viewing tickets were given access to the Banana Creek viewing area (which is how I got in). My apologies for the shakiness: this was done at 10-12x zoom without a tripod mostly while holding the camera over my head. Notes: – You start hearing the sound at about 0:28 in the video, which is 0:19 after liftoff. I am between 3.2 and 3.5 miles from the pad (accounts have varied), which is consistent with what I heard. – All annotated events are per the ascent timeline at spaceflightnow.com not what is timed with the announcements.

I was? there, too! What an awesome sight. I like your notes in the video.
Yes I’ve seen the shuttle land at Edwards, twice in fact. Though now days since the shuttle doesn’t land out here as often, I don’t think the public landing viewing area is available anymore, so you’d have to watch from a distance outside of Edwards gates.? I’m totally blind, so the sound of the launch is what I was really wanting to catch. If I want to catch another shuttle launch before end of shuttle program, I’d better get my causeway tickets now I guess, lol.
Thank you very much? for the compliment!
I think KSC is about 8 miles away from the pad. I saw STS-125 launch from KSC. It’s not so bad once it gets above tree level and you can see it.
Causeway tickets are really hard to get; they sell out in about a minute after going on sale. I know some people who tried to get tickets to STS-128 and got shut out.
Have you seen the shuttle land at Edwards? I’ve always wanted to go see a shuttle land.
It’s kinda funny; I’ve watched a bunch of these videos and you can hear the same guy in the background? in all of them!
We viewed STS-127′s launch from the KSC visitor complex. I wonder how far that is from where you viewed it from? I wanted to view my first shuttle launch ever from the closer viewing area, but all tickets had been sold out by the time we got our tickets for the visitor complex. Still had fun though, and thanks for the great video. I? enjoyed being at KSC and this video makes my adventure truly complete. I live about 20 miles from Edwards Air force Base, so getting to be at KSC was cool.
I was not very far? from you
I’ve heard that every astronaut always thinks of the? Challenger disaster until they pass the 73-second mark.
Awesome video. I still get this eerie feeling whenever they say “…go? with throttle up”, but anyway great vid!
aha! that thing? just starts fuckin cruisin!
Haha, the video response to mine is also another guy who was right near me, too! I guess he was kinda? loud!
You must have been very near me as I hear the same guy screaming out “zerooooooo!” I had the handheld radio with? the same audio as the PA system.
You can measure distances in Google Earth if you download that,? it’s done with GPS. It is extremely accurate.
Thanks! Where did you get that figure? Do you have an official URL? Even the KSC employees I talked to were giving? out inconsistent information on its distance.
3.90 miles to be exact.? Nice video.
